Planning Your Next Big Island Sightseeing Vacation

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
Gina Stevenson asked:

Are you interested in taking a Hawaiian sightseeing vacation? If you are, you may want to visit Big Island. Big Island is Hawaii’s largest island. What does that mean for you? It means that you often have more attractions to visit and more activities to participate in. That alone is what increases the popularity of Big Island trips.

When it comes to planning your next Big Island sightseeing vacation, you may want to start making your travel arrangements right away. While it is more than possible to not do so, you may first want to take the time to examine Big Island, namely what you can do and see while there. Doing so can help you pinpoint the perfect overnight accommodation for you, especially when it comes to location.

As previously stated, one of the many benefits to taking a Hawaii vacation on Big Island is your options. There is so much for you to do and see. What is nice about examining Big Island activities and attractions is that you have a number of different options. For instance, you can use the internet to your advantage. A standard internet search should help you familiarize yourself with Hawaii vacation activities, namely those for Big Island. If you plan ahead enough, you can also request free vacation guides.

Although it is relatively easy for you to examine Big Island vacation activities on your own, there are two places that are often referred to as “must visits,” by vacationers. One of those locations is the Hamakua Coast, which is located in Hilo. Hilo is the capital of Big Island. In addition to driving down a forty mile stretch of coast and examining the scenic mountains and waterfalls, there is much more for you to do. For instance, you can also visit the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, visit the “Valley of Kings,” as well as hike up the Akaka Falls.

Another must visit, if you are looking to plan a Hawaii sightseeing vacation on Big Island is the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. As with the Hamakua Coast, you will find an unlimited number of things to do and see at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. For instance, you can hike, drive, and bike to examine summits, craters, and much more. You can explore certain areas of the park on your own or you can take guided hiking tours. In fact, you can even camp at two main campground areas, which are free with park admission.

Once you have developed a list of Big Island attractions that you would like to visit, as well as Big Island activities you would like to participate in, you may want to then start examining all of your overnight accommodation options. As previously stated, doing the proper amount of research first will better enable you to choose the Big Island vacation rental that is perfect for your next Hawaii sightseeing trip. If you are truly looking to have a fun and memorable vacation, this is important. So, what harm can a few minutes worth of researching Big Island vacation rentals do?

Speaking of your overnight accommodations, when on a Big Island vacation, you will find that you have a number of options. These options include hotels, resorts, vacation home rentals, villa rentals, cottage rentals, condo rentals, as well as apartment rentals. While you do not necessarily need to decide which type of vacation rental you want first, you may find that it makes searching for the perfect rental a little bit easier. If you are interested in staying in the same place for your whole trip, you may find a vacation rental, such as a home, villas, condo, or cottage to be your best option, as they are ideal for extended vacations and most are private.

The above mentioned steps are just a few of the many steps that you will want to take, when planning your next Big Island sightseeing vacation. To have the perfect Hawaii sightseeing vacation, you will want to carefully plan all of your vacation, including your overnight accommodations, the activities that you want to participate in, and the attractions that you want to visit.

Hawaii – Island Paradise

Friday, September 25th, 2009
OnNetworks asked:

Hawaii is a well known group of islands within the United States. It’s popular for crystal waters, unique volcano mountains, and perfect tropical weather. It became an official state in 1959 as the official 50th state. Although the term Hawaii is usually used to reference the islands, it is actually a chain of many different volcanic islands where tourists and natives reside.

Mount Everest is considered the tallest mountain, however many do not realize that Hawaii’s Mauna Kea stands taller. Measuring the mountain from its base on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, the mountain stands at 33,476 feet. These mountains that make up the topography of Hawaii are the reason Hawaii’s land surface continues to grow. Most notably from Kilauea, the lava flows formed from erupting volcanoes continue to spread more surface area to Hawaii.

Climate in Hawaii is typical of a tropical island. The warm sun brings hot summers, however the cool breeze from the surrounding ocean keeps temperatures at perfect levels. The weather doesn’t alter much like most other states. Winters remain approximately at the same temperatures as summers, however slightly less humidity can be felt throughout the days. Hawaii is also subject to hurricanes during its season. Flooding and heavy storms can be hazardous on the island. The last hurricane to affect Hawaii was 1992, Hurricane Iniki, which directly hit the little islands.

Hawaii’s economy has boomed since its inception into the United States in 1959. Its tourism industry plays a large roll in its economy by providing a total of approximately twenty five percent of income. Hawaii has a unique farming area and food culture, so it maintains a popular food export economy as well. Coffee, macadamia nuts, pineapple, livestock, and sugarcane are among the popular food exports Hawaii has to offer.

If you wish to travel to Hawaii, there are many options of luxury resorts along with attractions to keep you busy during your vacation. Hawaii’s “big island” is home to the most popular resort, Kona, and has two of the world’s largest mountains and its most active volcano.

Oahu, Hawaii’s most populated and active island is home to the state’s capital, Honolulu. Honolulu is the central point for most of Hawaii’s economy and business. Its southern beaches attract famous surfers to compete with the tallest and most challenging waves the ocean offers.

Maui is the second largest island in Hawaii and it is known for beautiful landscapes that differ on each side of the island. Traveling Maui is unique from its tiny, winding road that cuts through tiny villages and island resorts.

Kauai Island is the place for tourists with a love for nature. Kauai is Hawaii’s most popular island for beautiful wildlife, plants, and rivers.

Lanai was once home to the popular Dole pineapple company. It was once the largest pineapple farm in the world. It now houses several luxury Hawaiian resorts.

Several other islands are a part of Hawaii. They are uninhabited, however, or privately owned. Niihau is a privately owned island where only family and friends can travel. Kahoolawe was once a US Navy bombing range that now is inhabited.

The Hawaiian Islands

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Don Guy asked:

The Hawaiian Islands are one of the most sought-after travel & vacation destinations in the world. Hawaii has 6 major islands consisting of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and the largest island of them all, Hawaii… more commonly called the Big Island. The big Island of Hawaii is about the size of Connecticut and is also the youngest of the islands, approximately 800,000 years old.

Planning a Hawaii Vacation

When planning a Hawaii vacation, more and more travelers are choosing to stay in a privately-owned vacation rental home for both comfort and price effectiveness. However, whether you choose an ocean view hotel, oceanfront vacation home, or a cozy villa tucked away in the countryside, you’ll find your Hawaii vacation totally refreshing with a myriad of opportunities for adventure, sightseeing, discovery and relaxing. You’ll also find that each of Hawaii’s Islands has its own distinct personality. Three of Hawaii’s beaches made the top 10 list of TripAdvisor in the U.S.: Oahu (#3) Kailua Beach Park for powder white sand beach. Kauai (#6) Tunnels Beach for outstanding snorkeling and views. Oahu (#10) Waimea Bay Beach Park for its clear and calm water in the summertime. With that said, let these award-winning locations be a guide when planning your Hawaii vacation.

A Little Hawaiian History

To fully appreciate Hawaii and its heritage, travelers are encouraged to learn a little about Hawaii’s history prior to (or during) their Hawaii vacation.

In 1778, Captain James Cook landed on the island called Kauai at Waimea Bay. He named the archipelago the “Sandwich Islands” in honor of the Earl of Sandwich. Captain Cook was the man responsible for opening the doors to the west. Sadly, he was killed only a year later in Kealakekua Bay on Hawaii’s Big Island.

The state of Hawaii was admitted to the Union on August 21, 1959, making Hawaii the 50th state of the United States of America. This group of islands was formed from past and current volcanic activity. Current volcanic activity can be found on the Big Island of Hawaii, while all volcanic activity on all the other Hawaiian Islands has been dormant for thousands of years.

At about 1,860 miles (3,000 km) from the nearest continent, the Hawaiian Island archipelago is the most isolated grouping of islands on the planet. The entire Hawaiian archipelago chain is 1,500 miles long with the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands disappearing beneath the ocean’s surface due to millions of years of erosion.

The Hawaiian Islands are a scenic paradise with a rich colorful history and a vast variety of activities and sightseeing for travelers & vacationers. As many already know, Hawaii is the birthplace of surfing and the infamous Hula dance. Vacationers can take a helicopter ride over steep cliffs and canyons, visit Pearl Harbor to view the USS Missouri and Arizona Memorial, take surfing lessons, outrigger or scuba lessons, or simply bask in the warm sun on the infamous Waikiki Beach. Hawaii abounds with water sports, golf, museums, art galleries, shopping, a zoo, aquarium and downtown nightlife. One hot spot in particular for vacationers is the active volcano K?lauea on the big Island of Hawaii, which offers a memorable helicopter adventure your family never forget.

Weather in The Hawaiian Islands

The warmer, dryer months in Hawaii are April through October, during which Hawaii has temperature ranges of 75-88 degrees Fahrenheit. A Hawaii vacation during the winter months is a pleasant 68-80 degrees. Some islands, such as Maui, are dryer than others, whereas Kauai is the wettest of all. Year-round trade winds make for an entire year of great vacation months.
